Nigeria has been reeling from a wave of brutal violence as two separate attacks in Kwara and Katsina states have left nearly 200 people dead. In the deadliest attack of the year, gunmen stormed the Woro community in central Kwara, executing at least 170 residents after they reportedly refused to renounce the state and embrace Sharia law. Simultaneously, in northern Katsina, at least 25 people were killed in Doma village, shattering a fragile five-month peace pact between locals and armed gangs. President Bola Tinubu has deployed an army battalion to the region and blamed the attack on Boko Haram. Nigeria has been facing immense pressure from US President Donald Trump, who has alleged a “Christian genocide” in the country and deployed US troops to counter ISIS.
