How Traoré Just Broke Africa’s Most Profitable Scam

Burkina Faso’s highway project is rewriting African infrastructure — and Ibrahim Traoré just exposed the contractor scam draining billions from African development budgets.
In this episode of The Strategic Lens, we go beyond the headlines to decode one of the most significant infrastructure stories on the continent right now. A landlocked country with no port, under Western sanctions, and fighting an active insurgency just broke ground on a 332-kilometre, 8-lane expressway — fully funded from national resources, no IMF loans, no foreign contractors.
But the road is only half the story.

We trace the money trail behind 62 years of broken African infrastructure promises, expose how the contractor model quietly converts public budgets into private profit, and show how Burkina Faso redirected $4.93 billion worth of recovered gold revenues directly into nation-building.
This is geopolitical analysis, African development strategy, and investigative economics — all in one episode.
What we cover in this video:
— Why Burkina Faso had only 3,000 km of paved roads after 62 years of independence
— How the African contractor system actually works and who it serves
— The $4.93 billion lost through illicit financial flows in Burkina’s gold sector
— How Traoré nationalised five gold mines and redirected the revenue into infrastructure
— The 332 km expressway connecting Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso, built at a fraction of quoted costs
— What the Alliance of Sahel States means for the future of African self-reliance
— The real questions about sustainability, governance, and whether this model can hold
This is not a praise video. It is not a hit piece. It is an open, evidence-based conversation about what is working, what the risks are, and what Africa can learn from it either way.

  1. to be fair most european infra was built the same way it was only later than the politics moved it towards private corpas and it only works because in europe and usa there are great many corpas that compete with each other… if there was just one road builder the price would be what ever that one corpa asks. goverment controlled spending has its own broblems mainly corruption and inefficiency and it will get progressively worse year by year unless agressively dealt with.

  2. ❤❤❤ words cannot express how proud I am of Presidential Torare. Thank you thank you thank you for your podcast so that we can know the truth! I'm a black American following from Augusta Georgia🥰

  3. I do hope Africa will disengage from the IMF and any other European banking system that change will free them. But corruption in Africa is as invasive as cancer.
Traore is Just another Military Dictator, putting off elections until 2029. Give it a couple years and the brutality against opposition parties will start being exposed.

  4. Traore and others with their citizens must immediately build institutions, the police, the prosecution, the court on sound and fair grounds, if you don't do it, you will return to the same situation again.I would like to come to Africa to see our cradle of life.

  5. In our country – Kyrgyzstan – canadian company with help from corrupt government/presidents, gained control over gold mine – Kumtor. They practically robbed the country of our gold, giving only fraction of extracted gold. And they also used the same rhetoric – you can't do it without us, so be happy with what we give you. But new president nationalised it and …. turns out we can do it ourselves too 🙂

  6. First – I agree. This young man and his video just proved that what is being done is the most Economical Method to Free this country from those who are controlling its every means of Income from its Resourses. Every country's Military has Trained Engineers to build roads, infrastructure, bridges, etc. so the Military is the perfect choice to achieve this 4400 km road and more, in less time than any Contractor with its dozens, maybe hundreds, of middlemen – because Military Engineers don't need middlemen. Military Engineers and their Labor Force produce quality workmanship because sucess in war needs roads that are able to withstand heavy equipment, lots of traffic and bombs plus BE easy and fast to repair.

Great job, info & vid. Thx. Bless y'all.

  7. Thanks for sharing. It took a strong and righteous leader to do this. Against all odds. Wish there are more like this, do it for the goods of their countries.

  8. Well done, Burkina Faso. It’s a reminder that the label of a system, democratic or otherwise, matters less than the character of the people running it. In the end, what truly determines a nation’s direction is whether those in power are genuine patriots or not.

  9. you need to teach the people about nationality not tribalism! Do you want everyone to be lifted out of poverty or do you want to allow certain people to get rich?
That is how leaders become hero then become legendary.
Canadian here and you are on the right path to prosperity. everyone needs to profit with money but Mostly by getting educated!
    vancouver bc
let go blackies! would love to come visit where its safe, Mexico is so boring now cause of all the snowbird in there Gated communities pushing the Natives out of the areas.

  10. Maybe I am being simplistic, but I believe the answer to that gap is mostly in the diaspora of african countries. We have millions of high skilled people across all the countries that we accept as quality producers, that can bring back that capacity regardless if they are first or 8th generation. A mix between the tech skills with the new vision of extraction, transformation and in house engineering could close or significantly minimise the gap.

  11. From India — proud of our African brothers for leveraging their own asset for the greater good of the country. It is also worth remembering that much of the infrastructure Europe built was funded by wealth extracted from Asia and Africa during the colonial era and its crumbling big time.

We do not need to seek validation from Europe in any way; we will chart our own path.

  12. You provoke real look into the history of economic infrastructural building by the greed and make shift building, of socalled leaders while co- siphening, wiling and dealing in personal interest against the People and the countries interest, without accontability or check and balance of the Financing bank, investors, planners, contractors, builders, politicians, all who were involved in the whole skeem to looting the country over those sixty years of Just 3000 Kilometers. of road. Is truly a crine Against the People and the Nation interest.
Truth, integrity and honor of a leader of Abrahim Traore's caliber rooted in compassionate care and genuine love for the sacredness of the lives of our People is a wonderful thing to see in action. That also activates our deepest and noble way. In our own individual and collective live in participation directly or indirectly our Hearts Soul, Minds and our Spirit is with you my Aborigenal Indigenous Brother and Sisters across all five Continents. For one and all and all for one. Is the reality coming into fruition of the damino effect taking place in Africa Ancient Afra under the Fourth (4th Root Race of the Atlanteans Rule by the Ancient Line of woman who ran there Minorchy in Peace for over 2 hundred thousand years in peace.
Shows that the Line from which Abrahim Traore's is activated, and balanced in spiritual conscious, being and Presence fullfilling part of his spiritual mission in spreading the light of inspiration in all Righteous just cause in the total establishment of a complete and absolute People's Sovereign Country along with Niger Mali and all the other Nations who are following the Triumphant way of how to build, cultivating and run a Nation. Light, Peace and Joyous Victory
    To One and All.

  13. If you stop exporting 50 tonnes of gold and mine and keep 150 tons instead, you can pay for locals to build infrastructure worth at least 100 tons worth without losing any money. But you also employ young local people, and build infrastructure in three years faster than six decades before that. Yes maybe the standard of the road is poor but when you have a choise between below average super highways between cities for free or huge debt for half finished top class highways in twenty years time what will you pick?

  14. The french and to a certain way the british ex-colonies had the problem you mention here because mainly the french and british were "colons" instead of "settlers" … Portugueses on the other end were settlers as well as dutch and the british that went to South Africa. The influence of the metropoles after independence over the ex-colonies is to be considered as well. To me the French after independence influence over their ex colonies can, to a certain extend, be considered a legal theft.. Thomas Sankara and now Traore were and are trying to change the status quo and change. The worst case of metropole influence in Africa can be considered the case of what is now RDC which were Belgian ( or king of Belgium ) property with so many resources and so little done … The other Congo is in similar situation.

  15. Corruption isn't only in Africa. Australia is worse at present – ports, construction, monies flowing out instead of staying locally – oil, gas, refining, mining.. Private deals.Australia could also be debt free.

  16. Brother thank you for this amazing report actually in Uganda we have the same problem over 600 billion from gold is stolen by a single family of the dictator Museveni.
Only $200m remains in the economy 😮.
They only created a Entebbe express highway, on of the most expensive roads in the world with poor standards, no road signs and piss for by anyone who wishes to use it.ugandda needs change
