Sudan’s civil war has reached a volatile new flashpoint as the Sudanese army and regional officials again accuse Ethiopia of actively backing the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in southeast Sudan. Following the RSF’s reported capture of the strategic border town of Kurmuk in Blue Nile State, the provincial governor alleged that the attacking forces launched their “invasion” from within Ethiopian territory. This follows previous claims by the Sudanese military regarding drone strikes originating from across the border. While Addis Ababa consistently denies involvement, the fallout is devastating for the local population. Over 400 families have already fled to the regional capital, Damazin, to escape the violence.

The Ethiopian government has support to RFS and set up a military camp in the Benishanguel Gumuz region, specifically in a district called Mengie Woreda. The camp has been established with military supplies and various forms of assistance. On March 27, 2026, more than 50 military patrol vehicles were deployed to RSF,. This is the truth I have seen with my own eyes! What I truly want to say is this: We Ethiopians stand with our Sudanese brothers and sisters!
