Ibrahim Traore Rejects Democracy as Burkina Faso Extends Military Rule | Firstpost Africa | N18G

Ibrahim Traore, the world’s youngest head of state, has sent a blunt message to the West and his own citizens: democracy is no longer the priority for Burkina Faso. As the military government dissolves political parties and extends its rule by five years, Traoré claims the nation is in a “progressive popular revolution” aimed at survival. However, a brand new April 2026 report from Human Rights Watch reveals a dark side to this shift, alleging that government forces have killed more civilians than the terrorists they are fighting. We explore Traore’s move toward Russia, the expulsion of French forces, and why Burkina Faso has become the global epicentre of extremist violence.

  1. It is possible for a dictator to be a good leader and govern. It is impossible for a elected leader to govern well unless voting is restricted to intellectuals who are smart and not corrupt themselves. O e man one vote is disastrous.

  2. One of the worst dictators in Africa and all of his big achievements are KI-Images! 2 Million people misplaced and 5,9 Million need humanitarian aid…thats failure not success!

  3. But why don't you guys respect our sovereignty. The president talked a lot, but why did you spot out democracy issue. Where is democracy in the world , we know your agendas, but we will overcome one day.

  4. Human right are a joke, they don't say anything when Israel or USA kill innocents. Also Human Rights never protect the weak, only follow political agendas.

  5. This report captures the headlines, but misses the core spirit of the actual interview.

Why frame 'forgetting democracy' without the context of Traoré’s explanation on how the previous political system became a 'business' of corruption?

We should ask: Is a Western-defined 'democracy' the priority for a nation currently fighting for its right to life and territorial sovereignty?

The 'realities on the ground' involve building their own roads and controlling their own gold to fund security.

Before accepting a single narrative, I encourage everyone to listen to the full, unfiltered interview to see both sides of this 'Progressive Popular Revolution.'

  6. OMG 😳,the video where people are lying dead on the ground on this News is so false, it's a video of terrorist killing captives that was being used to dig trenches because they tried to escape into the forest/desert,it has nothing to do with Burkina Faso, western media are so shameless cutting the video and only showing the part they want people to see 😢😮

  7. Leave this man alone and let him build his country and let those countries have their freedom to fair trade to fair business and move on. You can’t stay on our land you do business and you go home no building or buying no land that that’s it.

  8. Democracy in Africa is a crop the African leader used their power to reach their family and their lifes we don't need democracy Africa😂😂😂😂😂😂

  9. When the west talk about democracy, they don't admit that a functional democracy require the people to be educated and well informed. In a country like Burkina Faso, the base for democracy is not available yet. So many democracies end up with a dictator elected. The west is already starting to have extremely incapable leaders elected. Why do they still want democracy in Burkina Faso?

  10. What you have now in Cameroon is democracy right? Can someone explain that to me!
Do you practice that kind of democracy in the West?
Please leave Ibrahim Traore alone to serve his people…VIVA AFRICA!!!

  11. AES gov.’’s seem to follow theory & practice of 19 th century French activist & contemporary + Karl Marx
    & Friedrich Engels, who promoted
progressive coups d’ etat as his preferred politics

  12. WESTERN COLONIAL DEMOCRACY IN AFRICA IS OVER IMMINENT
    BECAUSE
OUR OWN AFRICA LANDS PLEASE BELONGS TO OUR KINGS 👑 ENDS QUEENS 👑 BY ALMIGHTY NATURE CREATOR 🌞☀️ SUN ABRAHAM PLEASE
    FINALLY
WE 54❤ AFRICA NATIONS PLEASE UNITED AS ONE AFRICA EMPIRE AGAIN ALSO ONES TRADE PARTNERSHIP ORDER IN AFRICA SEALED 👽👽👽👽👽👽👽 AMENAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMEN 🌞☀️ SUN ABRAHAM. ANNKIS 👽 ALIENS.

  13. Please… We don't have real democracy in the west either.
Our elections are influenced by third-party actors (foreign actors/governments, big business etc.) and our elected officials represent their interest. Our political parties are variations of each other and offer much of the same. Our media keeps the population dumb and uninformed, so we vote against our best interests. Those of us in glass homes shouldn't throw stones.

  14. Why is the West not in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE, Oman, Jordan, etc. preaching democracy? This game is very old and, frankly, got a hellish stink!
