Toledo detectives seek black Chevy Impala in 2022 Palm Sunday murder

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Detectives are asking for the public’s help identifying a black Chevy Impala they believe was involved in an unsolved murder from four years ago.

Daniel Torres was shot and killed on Palm Sunday, 2022, while asleep in a recliner inside a south Toledo home. More than 50 rounds were fired into the residence.

Detectives said the bullets were meant for Torres’ nephew, not Torres.

“1000% he was a victim. He did not deserve this. He was not involved in anything, as far as we can tell, whatsoever. He is a good member of the community and was targeted for the wrong reason,” an investigator said.

Investigators released video from a nearby carryout showing a black Chevy Impala they believe was involved in the shooting.

“It shows a black Chevy Impala going towards Beecham, then down Beecham. And some of the witnesses from that date describe a vehicle, sounds like a black Chevy Impala as well, described as a black sedan, dark-tinted windows and such. That’s what we see on the video,” an investigator said.

Detectives said they have recovered evidence in the shooting, including one of the guns used in the homicide. No arrests have been made.

Torres’ daughter, Danella, has waited four years for answers and is pleading for someone to come forward.

“And that God will put somebody’s heart to come forward if they know something. Give my dad justice. My dad wasn’t even a violent person, and he died to gang violence,” she said.

Detectives said even the smallest tip could break the case open.

“Anything can help, little things, big things, sometimes what doesn’t seem important to you is very important to us,” an investigator said.

Anyone who recognizes the black Chevy Impala is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
