Newly-elected DA leader Geordin Hill-Lewis has warned that the ANC’s looming leadership battle could destabilise both South Africa and the Government of National Unity. In an interview with Bloomberg’s Joumanna Bercetche, he argues that bitter factional infighting inside the ruling party poses a major threat to reform, while also outlining the DA’s stance on Iran, fuel-price pressure and its plan to grow support ahead of the local elections.

Israel pulled USA in to initiate the war on Iran, what did they expect? Iran has the right to defend itself. How can the DA happily link itself to the USA who has started uncountable illegal wars since Vietnam, inluding the Ukraine war, and broken international law repeatedly in recent years. Plus the USA funded the covid research that resulted in the pandemic, then there are the Epstein files.. Is this what the DA supports and stands for?? To support the USA is unthinkable. There are plenty of countries to trade with. BRICS has grown. Irresponsible behaviour will result in downfall sooner or later, it is a universal truth.
SA does maintain strong diplomatic and historical relations with Iran, primarily driven by the African National Congress (ANC). However, these ties have become a significant point of contention within the Government of National Unity (GNU), with major partners like the Democratic Alliance (DA) openly criticizing the relationship as "hypocritical" and harmful to South Africa’s national interests. Whilst the DA allows the ANC to continue to steer foreign policy, its GNU partners have increasingly challenged the "unilateral" nature of these decisions.
The DA the GNU’s second-largest party, has labelled the ANC’s stance on Iran as "schizophrenic" but haven't done enough to change this situation. Correctly they argue that cosying up to a "theocratic autocracy" contradicts South Africa’s constitutional values and risks alienating key Western trade partners , however the DA refuses to read the ANC the riot act on Zane Dangor's activist approach in which he heads the pro Iranian faction running the DFAI portfolio which is held by Ronald Lamola a political lightweight.
America colonize African country ,how could South Africans b friend with country that killed innocent people south Africa is bricks not nato
Always liked Geordin ,he's perfect as da leader
Another man who doesn't give a fig about women and minorities in Iran.
My Bloed us blou!!!!! lets back the DA bcause they will deliver us… !! Love the DA… Pls let me know where i can assist…
The SA ports are not capable of handling the the increase in shipping activities through our ports.
God help us please
That hyper racist
Mabalula. ! HELL NO! Entitled narcissist & a typical despot!!!
If Hill Lewis was an American, he would be a Chuck Schumer type , as in a Democrat woke leftist… wow, how misinformed is this guy …meaningless war ????. Only one centre right conservative party in SA and that is the FF+ , here I come after been DA since 1994.
I disagree with him about the war in Iran. It's a very important war. Nuclear weapons in the hands of the regime in Iran would be a disaster for the free world. I like this guy but his anti the Iranian war stance is naive. I do, however, hope the DA will succeed.
Lol. But the DA bends over backwards for the ANC. New face same slapgat DA. Vote FF+
Looking at some of the comments , I would say let's all back the DA to make sure we can get the anc out . We need new leadership in South Africa and the only way is to vote united for the DA not divided. United we stand strong divided we will fall under the anc .
Dear Geordin Hill-Lewis,
You are widely respected, and many people speak highly of your leadership. That said, I would like to share a perspective as a citizen living in Cape Town.
There is a growing concern that too much work remains unfinished. A key example is public transport. It is difficult to understand why reliable rail infrastructure has not been developed or restored on critical routes such as Cape Town to Somerset West, or Cape Town to Stellenbosch. Efficient, dependable train systems would significantly improve the daily lives of commuters, allowing people to travel to work in a safe, predictable, and low-stress environment.
More broadly, there appears to have been very limited progress in infrastructure development over many years. This is particularly concerning given the substantial taxes paid by citizens. Naturally, this raises an important question: how are these funds being allocated, and what tangible improvements can residents expect?
Tourism-facing areas are also in need of urgent attention. The Sea Point Pavilion, for example, is in a visibly deteriorated condition. The bathrooms are run down, tiles are broken, and the overall facility does not reflect the standards expected in a city that markets itself as world-class. Similarly, sections of the roads in Sea Point are in poor condition and require maintenance.
Given these realities, many residents are left uncertain about where accountability lies. While I sincerely wish you and your administration success, there is a clear need for more decisive action, stronger execution, and visible results. Citizens want to see leadership that takes these challenges seriously and delivers meaningful improvements.
At present, there is a sense of frustration and a lack of confidence in political leadership more broadly. This can change—but only through consistent, tangible progress.
Yours sincerely,
Isaac
Go DA GO, AND all you Idiotic naysayers. GIVE THE DA A FAIR CHANCE AND STOP THE FLOOD OF MISINFORMATION AND BLATANT LIES ABOUT THE DA. Check the facts first before you carry the bullshit forward in your coverage. Please, for the sake of this Country that we all love. Black voters are for instance made to believe that, in essence, their brains are spread along their skins because they must decide not with their brains but the colour of their skins. Black South Africans, please vote with your brains this time.
No European shall ever rule south AFRICA ever again. DA and VF are time wasters.
Hill Lewis is dillusional if he thinks the war is unnecassary…….if a regime is killing its own citizens by the thousands and threatens with nuclear war….it is SERIOUS!!
Hill Lewis just exposed himself as a puppet of the globalists….Soros, Klaus Schwab and the Democrats in the USA!
DON'T BE DECEIVED!!

Stay out of any criticism of foreign leaders. If they screw up that's their problem. Please make SA great again. You saw what has happened to rafool and jabba the huts daughter. Focus on SA. Let solly help get Helen over the struggle to take jhb. This is her last opportunity to fix jhb and prove that the da can make SA great again
I just don’t understand why can’t South Africa align with Iran?
GHL – weak woke leader, no insight, power hungry. Disappointment
In reality, it doesn't who you choose ANC or DA 😂. You filthy liar politician.
Succession of thugs 😢
The ANC have Togo for South Africa to prosper
why is he using americanized terms for RSA, "left wing". This one can forget about being President. Calling the coalition government a political cover is basically telling the South African people that your votes meant nothing. Left wing ideology wouldn't hurt the South African people, it would hurt the rich people that profit off of the labor of foreigners were not stupid DA.
Geordin Hill-Lewis is far too woke. The DA lost my vote and my family will definitely not be voting DA again. Go woke go broke.
True: the DA involvement in the GNU is, from the ANC viewpoint, a form of "political cover" The alternative would do far more damage to SA particularly economically.
True: the war going on in with Iran in the ME is having a huge impact on fuel costs – not only in SA but worldwide. What is the alternative? – Is it to allow Iran to continue funding terrorist organisations, continue killing hundreds of thousands of their citizens, and continue their path of uranium enrichment until they can say "guess what, we have nucler weapons, and if you don't watch out we will use them … maybe even supply some to our terrorist friends.
The anc is a terrorist organisation, now posing as a legitimate government (there are many governments around Africa posing in such a manner) so they will not stop being close friends with the likes of Iran and Hamas. Particularly not since Iran has oil and is a far wealthier country than SA. (The ANC are money hungry, and the more than can fill their pockets (and couches) behind the lies of "the best interests of SA" they happier they are.
whites dictating who should a black people associate with, fokof!!
Shut up. The ANC is not like PFP. So you know nothing about the ANC. Keep your white supremacy party to yourself.
