In this video, we discuss the recent developments in Burkina Faso, where numerous community groups and civil society organizations were dissolved without prior warning. We also examine the unfolding south africa politics, including the legal challenges faced by Julius Malema, raising questions about political accountability and human rights. This segment provides crucial africa news for those tracking political science.
African geopolitics 2026: Burkina Faso dissolves 118 NGOs, Julius Malema sentenced to 5 years, and the US-Iran Hormuz standoff reshapes global power — three crackdowns, one pattern worth understanding.
This week on The Strategic Lens, we decode three stories that cut to the heart of how power actually works in 2026. In Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s junta just dissolved 118 civil society organizations overnight — and the real story is more complicated than Western headlines are telling you. In South Africa, EFF leader Julius Malema has been handed a five-year prison sentence for a 2018 firearm incident, with his appeal already in motion. And in the Persian Gulf, the US-Iran war has hit a fragile military pause — a ceasefire and a blockade running simultaneously, with the Strait of Hormuz at the center of a standoff that no one is fully prepared to lose.
We go beyond the headlines. We decode the power plays, the money trails, the political agendas, and the questions nobody is asking loudly enough.
Who does “order” actually protect? When does sovereignty become a shield against accountability? And when a genuinely flawed leader with a genuinely important message gets sentenced — can you separate the justice from the politics?

Which organization are we talking about?
If Malema …becomes very strategic……he could come out of prison …more powerful…… he could be more influential…inside prison….than outside it……. what he needs is good thinkers around him…..
To be honest, I am from South Africa. I dont trust Malema's leadership style but we as black people cannot allow his arrest. His case is influenced by the white house, they are trying to disturbalize EFF from campaigning this year & it is vital for MKP & EFF to stand together during this years local elections. This just shows that law in South Africa is influenced by western state. That's my prospective, I submit!
Always seeing light in all your speeches i pray that your dream to unite Africa come true live forever young
We cry to you IBRAHIM see what is happening in our country South Africa The continents in our Zim ,Moz,Somalia Nig, Ethiopian all countries come to our country were are we going to do in this nonsense happening in our country They came with terrible weapons in our country Where are we going for protection
Wow
Black people are the MAJORITY in South Africa.
And yet we allow ourselves and our youth to be brainwashed by the colonial education system and by the white controlled media.
We allow the minority coloniser to remain in power and authority over us because we really believe he is “nice” and angelic towards us.
How defeated and absolutely mentally demoralised, defeated and DOMINATED.
Black South Africans are an extremely BROKEN (mentally) people.
How else can you explain THE COLONISER convincing us that firing a gun into the air is worth 5 years in prison for mr Malema?????
No other people on this planet are nice to their abusers than AFRICANS.
They would rather protest the Nigerians (fellow Africans from a messed up poverty ridden country) than confront the white minority who steal Billions from their land EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
BILLIONS!!!!!
Instead blame EVERYTHING on the minority of Nigerian criminals who even if they make $10 million, they are still only making crumbs compared to the BILLIONS taken by the coloniser children EVERY DAY.
Even if the corrupt ANC take $100 million, it still WILL NEVER compare to the BILLIONS taken daily by the coloniser children EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Broken South Africans
Pathet South Africans
Miserable South Africans
The white supremist apartheid segregationist colonisers invaders, should be held accountable for invasions of sovereign countries committing genocide killings of indigenous people's stealing their lands and resources causing refugees crisis poverty and slavery, they should pay reprorations for their cronies, trump offered refugees status they should go helping them packing their baggages and go to US and Europe where they can practice their apartheid segregationist regime more comfortable.
Traore and Malema in one photo? Even spoken of in the same YouTube? What an insult to Traore. Malema has no honor and no balls compared to him.
❤
NGO's have long functioned as Intel attaches and money disruptors for decades based upon history
Well done Traore. Hope all African leaders will follow soon whilst South Africa till borrows billions of rands from forein banks.
Fascist white supremacist judge. FREE MALEMA NOW!!
Twanet? Or Toilet
I'm a white American, but I stand with Ibrahim Traore, Julius Malema, and the people of Africa! While the West enters the twilight of its age of dominance, it is my hope that those societies who's necks we have stood upon for far too long rise to take up the mantle of human civilization
It is very clear that the ruling is based on racial bias and keeping South Africans in the chains apartheid.
There's a lot going thru the blockade and a lot of ships that aren't on the satellite apps
The genius of Captain Ibrahim Traore and AES LEADERS, UN ICC HR EU etc are the ones promoting corruption and sponsoring terrorism and wars in Africa and around the western are mistaken thinking AES LEADERS are the same as Africans democratic corrupted ignorant puppets leaders
Great show
The USA was once a Brittish colony. And I can confirm, that every organisation that is helping people in Africa is at least supported by European governements. The few exceptions don't get that funding. But there is a change in that system. What Europe tries to do with the "Great Green Wall" all over Africa, is trying to get more independence from the EU. We want intelligent African people, to stay in Africa. There are programs in the EU, to educate people in our states, but after that, we expect them to use that knowledge, to go back to their countries, and apply that gained knowledge in African states. They are trained, to be flexible, to change what they have learned, to be more resilant to what the rest of the world has to say. We want a strong, independent Africa. An Africa that stands up for them selves, without players like Trump, Putin, Xi Jinping, or jihadists, controlling parts of your states/countries. Be your own self, aware what is going on, and retaliate when needed. 😉
I made a comment on an instagram video about a video that went viral of a SA woman telling a Ghanain man to go back and fix his country. @Shanell R.Oliver makes an interesting point about divide and rule in her video. I responded to a comment that suggested that Burkina Fasso is doomed to fail by reminding the commenter that I disagree because what Captain Traore has been working on over the last 3 years is his people’s mindset and confidence.
As a nation feels confident about the Leader having their best interests at heart, then those same people will automatically pull together to support their leader and their nation! This is what I am observing is happening in Burkina Fasso and the AES as a whole and what is happening in Iran who have been attacked – the reason Iran is still standing is because of the unity of her people! Whilst strategic games are being played, the US is falling apart because of division and lack of support for their leader who is implicated in the Epstein files and there are so many heinous things happening in the US to anger its people! Meanwhile in SA, the timing of Julius Malaema’s court ruling has definitely come from outside pressure and the white minority within SA, the fear is palpable – I find it interesting that the gaslighting and the divide and rule rhetoric has raised its head and I’m suspicious.
Your 3 connecting pieces about the perception of power shows me that the strategic game of chess that has always been won by the west is actually shifting. Your generation will not put up with it any longer and I can see the House of cards beginning to tumble as the power dynamics shift. I doubt that Iran will agree to anything the US has to offer or indeed believe them ever again. I think they will now be moving towards (if not already) a nuclear solution that protects them and their closest allies, in the future.
What we have all been witnessing is the impunity and disregard that the US has been using for years, although its been masked by so called diplomacy and statesmanship. Unfortunately for the American people but fortunately for the rest of us, this president doesnt actually have the qualities to negotiate or broker peace. As we have all seen what happened with Greenland, Venezuela, Nigeria and now Iran 🤷🏽♀️ In twenty years time this young generation will be 20 years older and their children will be even more impatient than they are to have sovreignty and peace✌🏽
True and Exact: You Sir Have Given Us ( Humanity) Factual Truth 💯💯💯 …Mix Those Truves With Worldwide WS ( white supremacy) and We Have Finally Reach The Conclusion/ End of Worldwide Fall Of Humanity s Number One Problem ' White Supremacy ' , That's What's At Stake… Permanent Fall Of Global Slavery ( White Rule Over Weakness Maliginated Human Slavery!!! Yes Sobeit….God… Enough Said!!! Amen
As a black woman born in the UK, I am so proud of Ibrahim Traore. to see this young Premier making great changes in Africa, in my life time
its one thing to kick out colonizers. Its another thing to then take over the country and not feed or educate the ppl properly while simply clinging to power with your guns as you remove ppls abilities to vote freely. but the amount of times this has happened in practice(and in conversation) doesn't change so im really just wasting my breath as my fellow diaspora praise this fool for 'fighting the colonizer/ngo'. wake up my brothers and sisters. evil comes in all colors.
🎉Why are African countries begging for gel from foreign countries ? Africans can’t expect to run their countries if they’re busy stretching out their hands for food from foreign. Africans are subjecting themselves to manipulation and control when they place themselves in a position of beggars
I subbed to get more info on the AU but I won't stay subbed to channels using AI. good luck but piss off.
He's moving forward into the future without asking, he is now doing what his people long for and the world also seek, is a leader of great conviction for the betterment of his people,, protection of his people from outside & within forces and a future for his people without pain, suffering, death, humiliation, from abusers who time is coming to an end, fact, we are watching it as it unfolds
I don't know the full details of why Traore blocked those 118 civil organizations, but it seems like something that had to be done. Africa has been held back by "aid" organizations for decades.
Time of revolution, that was what the shots mean💯 Just saying, when you got a w/t women handling out sentence to a black man 🤦🏿♂️. Wake up manos.
Africa's rise is inevitable.
NGOS ARE THE TOOLS OF WESTERN IMPERIALIST POLITICAL AGENDAS……. FUNDED BY THEM ….. TO DESTABILISE THESE COUNTRIES
Whats being done to Malema is ultimately a crime by the south african government
WESTERN NGO REPLACE MECENIERY IN AFRICA. THEY BOTH PLAY THE SAME ROLE. SET THE GROUND WORK FOR AFRICA TO BE EXPLOITED. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Neocolonist are still trying to silence the African voices of present day freedom fighters 💪.
Can you reduce the bass in the sound a bit?
Economic hit men
THAY MADE A BIG MISTAKE
PUTTING MALAMA IN JAIL. I REALLY HOPE THAY DIDN'T DO THAT. THAT'S NOT GOING TO GO UNPUNISHED.
TOUCHING GOODGODS ANOINTED. LIKE THAT . HA
President Traore is fear , but he doesn't tolerate N G O who are causing problems .
Watching from jamaica
NGO equals spies
The only Africans shocked by Chinese spying in the AU building they donated were the African leaders🙄
Julius Malema seems a very dramatic person but is he a genuine person?
