South African police hoist crocodile out of river to recover human remains

A South African police captain who hoisted a crocodile out of a river in a daring effort to recover human remains has been praised for his “extraordinary bravery”. Captain Johan “Pottie” Potgieter was lowered alone into a “crocodile-infested river” to secure the euthanized animal in a “highly dangerous and complex operation,” the South African Police Service said in a statement Sunday. The crocodile was safely lifted and relocated by helicopter, enabling professional teams to recover the remains of the suspected missing person from the Komati River in Mpumalanga province, the statement added.

  1. Imagine being the guy right above the croc when the heli tries to land 😂😅 The croc makes touchdown first and then you just gotta pray others are there to hold the croc down before the heli lowers you too far right into the crocs mouth. Or better yet, hope his mouth is already banded shut.

  2. Explain to me please how they knew this particular crocodile had a missing person's human remains in it's belly??? This makes zero sense to me.

  3. So…were the remains recovered and how long did it take to catch this specific croc after it consumed the person? I’m assuming they euthanized the croc, yes?
