San Diego, CA — This Mother’s Day, the Haitian Bridge Alliance honors immigrant mothers across the United States whose sacrifices, resilience, and labor continue to strengthen the fabric of this nation and the Global South.
From hospitals and classrooms to farms, law firms, businesses, and homes, immigrant mothers play a vital role in sustaining the U.S. economy and caring for communities nationwide. According to the American Immigration Council, there are more than 23 million immigrant women in the United States, with approximately 12.7 million participating in the labor force, while millions of others contribute through caregiving, entrepreneurship, community leadership, and raising the next generation of Americans. Despite their immense contributions, immigrant women in the labor force earn less than any other demographic.
“Immigrant mothers are among the most overlooked pillars of the American economy and society. They are raising children, caring for families, working in essential industries, and making sacrifices every day to create opportunities not only for their own families, but for future generations. Yet, despite these contributions, many continue to live in fear of policies and immigration enforcement practices that separate mothers from their children and destabilize families and communities,” said Guerline Jozef, Executive Director of Haitian Bridge Alliance.
Haitian Bridge Alliance also recognizes the emotional and economic support immigrant mothers provide to families both in the United States and abroad through remittances, caregiving, entrepreneurship, and community leadership. Global remittance flows reached an estimated $905 billion in 2024, underscoring the essential role immigrant communities play in supporting families and economies worldwide.
Haitian Bridge Alliance believes immigrant mothers deserve more than recognition — they deserve equitable pay, economic opportunity, humane immigration policies, and the ability to thrive in the very country they help build each day.
