Black Business Bus Tour to celebrate 20 years in Tampa | Community

On June 13 and 14, the Black Business Bus Tour will celebrate 20 years of supporting and bringing awareness to Black-owned businesses in the Tampa Bay area.

The bus tour started 20 years ago at the Harbor Club in the Sulphur Springs area of Tampa. The concept was to take motorcoach buses filled with at least 50 passengers directly to Black-owned businesses, roll up at their doorstep, and spend money inside.

“Over the last two decades, it’s been an overwhelming experience watching businesses come and go. But so many have remained resilient and steadfast,’’ said Candy Lowe, founder of the Black Business Bus Tour in Tampa. “I truly believe the Black Business Bus Tour has played a part in that resilience by keeping dollars circulating in our community. That’s been key to helping businesses stay stable and afloat.

She added, “I’m grateful for the team we’ve had over the years. They’ve made sure we stayed on point, spotlighted businesses, and kept them on our routes year after year. I’m also grateful for everyone who has shown up to support.’’

On Friday, June 12, participants will dine at a Black-owned restaurant and will visit two Black-owned businesses during the day. A kickoff celebration will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Venue 1206, 1206 Main St., Tampa.

On Saturday, June 13, a business expo is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 5508 N. 50th St., Tampa.

A 20th anniversary celebration is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Hilton Westshore, 2225 North Lois Ave., Tampa. Tickets are $50 per person. Doors open at 6 p.m. The event will include food, entertainment, dancing, a video presentation, and some surprises.
