South Africa Plans to Bill Other Nations for Deportation Amid Xenophobia Row | Firstpost Africa

South Africa is witnessing an intense surge in anti-immigrant sentiment as the Ramaphosa government implements a sweeping immigration crackdown. Facing severe domestic economic pressures, including a 30% unemployment rate and strained public infrastructure, the government has arrested over 40,000 undocumented migrants in 2026 alone. To curb the financial burden, Pretoria is considering a proposal to bill foreign nations for the deportation costs of their citizens. The situation has become volatile, prompting travel warnings from the US, the UK, and Australia. Adding to the international anxiety is an unauthorised June 30 deadline issued by a grassroots movement demanding that undocumented foreigners leave or face a national shutdown. While the government has rejected the rogue deadline and promised human-rights-compliant enforcement, migrant communities remain deeply shaken amidst fears of escalating street violence.

  1. That’s BS. Every country on the planets foots the bill in such situation when they don’t want foreigners. It’s not foreign countries meant to pay, it’s the country that doesn’t want foreigners.

  2. Other countries should send the bills of the cost of their business that where looted to the South African government, if they don’t pay, the countries should bake sure that South Africa companies in their country pays.

  3. We spend over R4.7billion in foreign prisoners a year. Who does the world expect to pay for the world delinquents?

That is a nonsense headline. Countries export and import goods, I don't know what tarris we charged on their criminals.

Try find new way to bait for views. Good stories would be a good start.

  4. It is not the duty of other countries to secure their borders nor manage their immigration services. Their criminal selves should be more concerned about following human right and international laws !! They are being DUMB.

  5. I told people that the government support the street violence against foreigners. They should control their borders, charge their Officers to stop illegal immigration and stop blaming foreign government, it's SA government failure

  6. Trump is setting up Gaza style prison camps for American Jewry, in the form of ICE centers. He is NOT deporting. The issues in South Africa were caused by the Jewish Minister of Home Affairs (immigration control) Leon Schreiber who is refusing to deport foreign criminals and illegal immigrants despite South Africa having a 70% local unemployment rate. Jews make up less than 4% of the population in South Africa, so he wheeled and dealed to get that position and now is being corrupt.

  7. THEN ONLY IN SOUTH AFRICA YOU CALL IT XENOPHOBIA, NOT IN AMERICA AND THE UK EVEN IF IS SIMILAR CRACKDOWN ON ILLEGAL FOREIGNERS. THE ENTIRE BIBLE REJECTS HYPOCRITES. THAT'S WHO YOU ARE.

  8. It's because the devil deceives leaders and then people follow into conflict, violence, prison, hell, horror and their death…the negative consequences won't be explained to people,so they follow blindly. It will be hard for the people of South Africa to recover their reputations…but if you have been led into a bad situation, all you can do is to educate others not to make the same mistake and to overcome evil with good. Not all are guilty of these attacks either, but as usual criminals will do the worst. Criminals are among all, causing hardships on all, causing harm and having all associated with these things

  9. He forgets about those who assisted south Africa to end apartheid, freedom south Africa is enjoying today is a result of various countries contribution in Africa, Europe has one currency and open borders for themselves, can't he help those who are weak, copy and paste don't fit Africa, south Africa do not know what awaits them in the future, every nations rise and fall and no empire stands forever, let them help their fellow Africans if they can, they are one people, if all Africa turn their back at south Africa they will fall, they should know that they are on Africa continent and not Europe

  10. The legacy of a white minority's control over much of South Africa's wealth and resources has left deep frustrations in society. Sadly, some South Africans have redirected that anger toward African immigrants and refugees, blaming and victimizing them instead of confronting the structural inequalities at the root of the problem. Shame on those who target the vulnerable rather than the powerful.
