The Oldham County History Center will host its 2026 Juneteenth Celebration Banquet on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.) at City Place Pavilion, located at 112 South First Avenue in La Grange. This year’s celebration honors historic local black churches; recognizing their role as cornerstones of the Civil Rights Movement.

Juneteenth, observed on June 19 and now a federal holiday, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and stands as a powerful symbol of freedom, community and perseverance. The Oldham County History Center’s annual banquet invites residents and guests to gather in celebration, reflection and fellowship as the community honors the individuals and institutions that have shaped its history.

Elijah Marrs Achievement Award

The 2026 Elijah Marrs Achievement Award will be presented posthumously to Reverend W. H. Craighead (1861-1942). Named in honor of Elijah Marrs — a La Grange native, Civil War soldier and educator — this award recognizes individuals whose lives reflect extraordinary courage, leadership and service to the community.

Panel discussion and entertainment

The evening will feature a panel discussion with distinguished guests Rev. Dr. Charles Elliott, Jr., William E. Summers IV and Mattie Jones, who will share reflections on the legacy and continued importance of Black churches in the region. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Serenity Singers.

Tickets and reservations

Tickets are $15 per person and include a full buffet dinner and dessert. Children 10 and under are admitted free. Seating is limited, and reservations are strongly encouraged through Eventbrite.
