LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Lexington can now add itself to the list of communities with recent black bear sightings.
The Lexington-Herald Leader reported that a young black bear was spotted traveling through the Masterson Station neighborhood on Sunday.
Officials with the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources confirmed to WKYT that they are aware of the reports but that specific information is limited.

“We have heard about the bear sighting in Masterson Station. We don’t have any information other than what the neighbors posted on social media,” the department’s Lisa Jackson said in a statement.
However, it is common to see black bears in this area of the state during this time of the year.
“Young male bears from the mountain counties can make it to and through central Kentucky in the late spring or early summer, which can lead them into urban areas without them meaning to do so,” Jackson said.
