A billionaire‑brand alliance is testing just how far public trust can be stretched. Target’s Jay‑Z partnership lands amid a boycott fueled by the company’s retreat from DEI commitments and billions in lost value. The criticism behind the move leads Rooted’s Paris Alston to examine the widening gap between celebrity power and community expectations, especially when cultural icons lend legitimacy to corporations facing accountability demands. She also interrogates whether this move is strategic crisis management or a calculated distraction. Ultimately, asking what communities owe their heroes and what those heroes owe back.

T-E-A-C-H!!!! 🎓📋✒️🏆🙏🏾🎓
This is an effort to bring back the Black dollars to Target. Why wasn't this released on Tidal???!!!!!
The time and effort that individuals identifying as Black invest in boycotting Target due to DEI could be redirected towards creating their own businesses within their communities, allowing them to implement as many DEI hires as they desire. This is a strategy employed by other ethnic groups. Why can’t they do the same?
I don’t listen to that clown’s music anyway.
Let's continue the work!!!
On to the next 1
JZ is a joke
Nope not feeling it! Jay Z sold his soul and I'm cool off of him and Target! 🤨Won't be buying Nothing!!!…… for a reason and without a doubt!
To me, a pluto€rat is a pluto€rat.
(Why can artists call their not-first album "debut"? .. Did they change genres or artist titles or just labels?…. Didn't he already have his own? ….
Edit: Oh, so it's a rerelease, this time. ….)
He could have worked with record stores
Piratebay.
J ain’t 💩 end of story
Still boycotting.
Don’t be fooled, there was never a boycott..black people were in those stores 8am-11pm..with all these black billionaire/millionaires and none thought of opening a Black owned department store like a Walmart or Target?.people want to complain but not actually do something about it..🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️

Message!
You're all stupid for shopping at Target or even caring about this let Target burn down to the ground nobody cares
MONEY!!!!
Not buying ANYTHING from Target.
I’ve never been a fan of Jay-Z…and this is among the reasons. He usually puts profits before morals(whether in making deals with corporations or writing questionable lyrics that does enormous harm)…and will attack our leaders (like Harry Belafonte) who have sacrificed a lot more for the cause than he has…all predicated on opportunistic pursuits and positioning himself as the ultimate king maker. People have to think deeper and stop being distracted and attracted to shiny objects…cloaked in “opporcoonist” agendas.
We too must “stand our ground” and make corporations and others respect us and recognize our human dignity…and stop making ourselves so easily commoditized for a few pieces of silver.
I’m not shopping there still
The man told y'all, he's a business man.
