EUGENE, Ore. – Eugene police arrested two people in connection with a March robbery at a Eugene motel after serving a search warrant at Black Lotus Tattoo on West 6th Avenue, according to the Eugene Police Department.
EPD officials said that officers with the Street Crimes Unit and SWAT caught 58-year-old Brian Charles Julien and 39-year-old Derick Justin Pier at the tattoo shop at 1011 W. 6th Avenue. According to Eugene Police, Julien faces a charge of robbery in the first degree and Pier faces a charge of robbery in the second degree. Police say Julien had a gun and fentanyl when he was arrested. Officers also found 10 people living on the property in multiple structures, including another person connected to the robbery who was also arrested.
The search warrant followed an investigation into a March 11 robbery. According to police, a 50-year-old guest at the Express Inn was robbed at gunpoint by multiple people wearing masks. The suspects then ran to Black Lotus Tattoo, which Julien owns. Police say the suspects used drones after the robbery while officers were arriving. An alleyway on the property is known for heavy foot traffic and hand-to-hand drug dealing.
The property has drawn complaints because of its impact on the neighboring community. City of Eugene Code Compliance responded and the building has been deemed a dangerous building and is boarded up.
