Migrants given deadline to leave — now tensions in South Africa are escalating | DW News

Protesters in South Africa set a deadline: undocumented migrants should leave the country by today. Now that deadline has arrived — and tensions are building. Demonstrations have spread across major cities, with businesses closing and a heavy police presence on the streets. Protesters accuse migrants of driving crime and economic pressure. But foreigners say they are increasingly being targeted and fear for their safety.

  1. Diane is South African journalist married to a foreigner she is forever sympathetic to illegal immigrants. She must be called out for spreading false narratives…..

  2. Stop complaining and build your country. if Ghana or Nigeria or Zim was developed for their citizens to enjoy their own country would you be saying all this stuff? Almost 70 years of independence and common waste disposal system you cant do one in your countries. Instead you are complaining about someone who was illegally in another person country. Is South Africa responsible for you people defecating in gutters and stealing taxpayers money to finance extravagant lifestyles of your corrupt politicians? You are not serious.

  3. THE PRESIDENT CAN SAVE THE SITUATION BY ENDING ALL THE VISA FREE GIVING TO THE AFRICAN NATIONS AND PROBLEMS SOLVE , MANY COUNTRIES DON GIVE VISA FREE TO SOME INDIVIDUAL COUNTRIES SIMPLE BECAUSE OVER POPULATION IMMIGRATION ,, PRESIDENT XERORAMAPHOSA CLOSE ALL THE FREE VISA WAVES AND EVERYTHING WIL BE FINE 👍

  4. Let’s do thesame to all foreigners from South Africans in Europe back to South Africa aswell. Finally there will be no protesting in Europe by South Africa in Europe as they do thesame to other in their country

So Elon musk and trump was right then

  5. Leviticus 19:33-34
"When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt."

Hebrews 13:2: "Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it."

  6. 💡The actions of these anti-African hoodlums are exactly the type of behavior that has earned South Africa an international reputation for being one of the most dangerous countries on the planet. Don't take my word for it; the following facts say it all:

    ● South Africa reportedly scored 74.5 out of 100 on the global crime index. That placed South Africa 5th globally and 1st in Africa as the most dangerous country! The countries that placed ahead of South Africa globally tended to be countries experiencing severe geopolitical or civil collapse, such as Papua New Guinea, Venezuela, Haiti, and Afghanistan. Even if South Africa's immigrants were all violent criminals, they could not account for South Africa's standing on the international crime index.

    ● In 2025, South Africa reportedly ranked 129th out of 166 nations in terms of the Global Safety Index. According to WION, this made South Africa less safe than Israel, Cambodia, Ecuador, and Kyrgyzstan, which have all scored poorly in the Global Security Index and placed at the bottom segments of the ranking.

    ● The homicide rate in South Africa is reportedly seven times higher than the global average, with the national murder rate around 40 per 100,000 people. In the African context, it is three times the continental average at around 11 per 100,000 people.

  7. They always use immigration to hide their own failures, blame somebody else, and it still won't solve the problem, the USA is doing the same, and has anything gotten better?

  8. When Tata Mandela fought apartheid we supported, encouraged, cheered.
Fast forward 2026 you have new terminology ie makwere kwere, bahambe etc
Good bye pan Africanism, bye Ubuntu, kwaheri.
We can build the rest of Africas economy the way Israel was built from zero in 1948 to what it is now.
    Bye bye.

  9. Yes this generation is not like time of Bota. For year I watched Winnie and Madeba and Pretoria fought. We not going to back these youngsters not playing. Wasp ready to sting!
