INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indiana Black Expo will celebrate the 55th anniversary of its Summer Celebration July 9–19 with a citywide lineup of events highlighting culture, education, health, business, and community.

“For 55 years, we’ve celebrated unity across races, ethnicities, and generations,” said Alice Watson of Indiana Black Expo. “This year’s Summer Celebration reflects our continued commitment to bringing people together and creating lasting impact.”

The celebration opens with the Mayor’s Breakfast and an ecumenical service led by Georgia State Sen. Rev. Raphael Warnock, senior pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church. The Black Film Festival, presented in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association, will showcase films that amplify stories and issues impacting the community.

This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the Indiana Black Expo Health Fair. For the first time, the organization will independently produce the event, providing attendees with more than $4,000 in free health screenings and services.

In recognition of Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, the exposition will host a Mental Health Symposium featuring basketball legend Sheryl Swoopes and a panel discussion on wellness and mental health in the Black community.

The popular Fashion Show also returns, featuring 11 designers, including Elon Furs, Nicole Rene—who also serves as event chair—and Nikki Blaine Couture. WISH-TV’s Patrick is hosting the show for the 10th consecutive year after serving on the planning committee for 15 years.

Additional events include Senior Night, the Business Conference, Education Conference, Kids Downtown, the Corporate Luncheon, and the Outdoor Concert.

Founded in 1970, Indiana Black Expo is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing communities through education, empowerment, and engagement while welcoming people of all races, ethnicities, nationalities, socioeconomic backgrounds, and faiths.
