No delay: PM visits Galleons Passage to oversee aid bound for Venezuela upon return to T&T

Just hours after returning to Trinidad and Tobago from the CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting in Saint Lucia, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar visited the Galleons Passage to inspect humanitarian relief supplies being prepared for shipment to Venezuela.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister of Works and Infrastructure, Jearlean John, as they toured the vessel and reviewed the emergency supplies destined for the neighbouring South American nation.

Sharing details of the visit in a post on her official X account on Wednesday, July 8, Persad-Bissessar reaffirmed Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to assisting Venezuela during its current humanitarian challenges.

“Tonight, upon my return from Saint Lucia, I was joined by Minister of Works and Infrastructure, the Honourable Jearlean John, to visit the Galleons Passage and inspect the humanitarian relief supplies being prepared for shipment to the people of Venezuela,” the Prime Minister wrote.

She added, “Trinidad and Tobago continues to stand in solidarity with our Venezuelan neighbours during this time of need.”

The visit came shortly after Persad-Bissessar returned from the 51st Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM in Saint Lucia, where regional leaders discussed matters including security, economic development and cooperation among member states.— Story by I.A.N News
