Police in the West African nation of Togo have used tear gas and batons to break up anti-government protests in the capital, Lome. Demonstrators are demanding the resignation of President Faure Gnassingbé following a recent constitutional reform that could allow him to remain in power indefinitely. The opposition has described the move as a “constitutional coup,” accusing the government of undermining democracy.
