JoJo Siwa reveals painful health scare before Black Friday performance

Siwa says a ruptured ovarian cyst sent her to the ER shortly before her scheduled Mall of America performance.

WASHINGTON — JoJo Siwa says she’s “doing all right” after being rushed to the hospital with severe stomach pain hours before a scheduled Black Friday performance.

The 22-year-old singer and former “Dance Moms” star shared a health update on TikTok after posting a photo of herself on a stretcher ahead of her Nov. 28 appearance at the Mall of America in Minnesota. Siwa said she had been dealing with stomach pain for several days, which grew significantly worse Friday morning.

“Every time that I’ve been dancing for the last couple of days, or even just walking,  my stomach would really, really hurt,” she said.

At first, she thought it might be menstrual cramps, but the pain intensified to the point where she struggled to breathe. Siwa said she tried taking a bath to soothe the discomfort, but it set the pain off “100 times worse,” leaving her feeling like she’d black out or throw up.

Siwa called her mother, who eventually contacted paramedics. Although EMTs said her vitals looked normal, the pain remained severe, and she was taken to the hospital. Doctors performed an ultrasound and determined that “one of my ovaries had a cyst on it that burst and was bleeding into my stomach,” Siwa said.

“That’s what was causing the excruciating pain,” she explained.

Siwa said she received pain medication and was discharged within two hours. Despite the scare, she still performed at the Mall of America later that day.

She told fans she is not “100% yet” and will need a follow-up appointment in the coming week, but doctors expect the issue to resolve on its own. For now, Siwa said she plans to keep working while monitoring her symptoms.

“The good news is we know what it is, and I think that brought a lot of peace of mind to me,” she said.
