A diagram showing the pricing of licensing in Kentucky.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is striving to take driver licensing to the next level through the Popup Driver Licensing Program — a traveling service that brings licensing renewal services to local communities that don’t have a regional office — which will next be held in Oldham County on Dec. 11.
Each “Popup” includes benefits of a Driver Licensing Regional office, such as the ability to:
-
Upgrade to a REAL ID license
-
Request an 8-year license if you are due to renew
-
Update your name or address
-
Renew your CDL
Oldham County’s last 2025 “Popup” event will be hosted at the John Black Community Center, located at 1551 N Highway 393 in La Grange, on Dec. 11, with appointments starting at 9:30. To register, visit drive.ky.gov/Drivers/Pages/Popup-Map.aspx. Also, Walk-ins are welcome, but not guaranteed.
According to the KYTC website, 2026 “Popup” events are also scheduled to be held at the John Black Community Center on Jan. 13, May 19, and Sept. 22. Registration for each 2026 event will open at 8 a.m. on Dec. 30; May 05, 2026; and Sept. 08, 2026; respectively.
Note that, effective Jan. 1, 2025, a vision screening is required to renew a Kentucky driver’s license
More on “Popup” events
Popup events are only for residents of the county hosting the event. Every county not hosting a KYTC Driver Licensing Regional Office receives at least two Popup visits annually.
Appointments are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and must be made online. Appointment holders will be sent a confirmation email and text message immediately.
Additionally, appointment holders will receive a reminder email/text message four days before the event. If an appointment-holder cannot make an appointment, please cancel it. This will open the appointment up for others.
Popup staff will email or phone all appointment holders before each event. It is essential that appointment holders respond to staff when they receive calls or emails. Staff will confirm appointments, answer any questions, and ensure each customer has the proper documents to receive service at a Popup event.
While Popup events are by appointment only, staff may be able to take a limited number of walk-ins at each event; however, there is no guarantee. Residents who choose to walk in at a Popup event should communicate with staff, who will indicate the possibility and/or wait time for service.
The following forms of payment will be accepted: debit cards, credit cards, checks, and money orders. The program is not accepting cash payments. A pricing list is available at drive.ky.gov/RealID/Pages/Pricing.aspx.
Skip a trip to a regional office or popup event and renew online or by mail! Most Kentucky credential needs can be done from the comfort of your home. To learn more, visit drive.ky.gov/Drivers/Pages/Drivers-License-Compare.aspx.
