ROCHESTER, Minn. — The Rochester Branch of the NAACP has announced a series of events celebrating Black History Month.

These events aim to highlight the contributions of Black and African American communities, with a focus on education, culture, and economic empowerment.

The premier event will feature Lee Hawkins, a Pulitzer Prize finalist and 2026 NAACP Image Awards nominee. Hawkins will discuss his memoir, “I Am Nobody’s Slave,” which explores his family’s legacy of trauma and resilience. This event is scheduled for February at the Hilton Rochester and will include a book signing. Attendance is free, but registration is required.

On February 21, a Homeownership and Wealth Building Workshop will be held at the RAEDI Offices in Rochester. This workshop will address the significant disparities in homeownership, offering tools and knowledge to help Black and African American households build generational wealth.

The same day, the University of Minnesota Rochester’s Black Student Union will host “Ebony Night” at the Hilton Rochester. This student-led event will feature cultural performances and a youth dance party. It’s free for students and $25 for community members.

Concluding the series, the Black Excellence Expo will take place on February 28 at 125 LIVE. This event will showcase Black-owned and minority-owned businesses, emphasizing their role in local economic growth. The expo aims to support local entrepreneurs and strengthen the regional economy.

These events underscore the Rochester Branch of the NAACP’s commitment to promoting economic stability and celebrating Black excellence.
