Dorchester County Council will take up a series of rezonings, board appointments and an annual proclamation when it meets at 6 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Dorchester County Human Services Building.
The meeting will open with a vote to approve minutes from the Jan. 20 session, followed by consideration of Proclamation 26-02, which would recognize February 2026 as Black History Month in Dorchester County, according to the meeting agenda.
Council will also hear a presentation from David Irwin of Mauldin & Jenkins LLC, who will deliver the county’s audited financial statements for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025. An update on the Dorchester County Airport is also scheduled.
Under County Administrator Jason Ward’s report, several land-use matters will move forward for first reading and referral to the Planning, Development and Building Committee:
- Rezoning Request No. 946 – 1.63 acres on Sampson Road near Ridgeville, from Agricultural Residential (AR) to General Commercial (CG).
- Rezoning Request No. 949 – 1.35 acres on Dantzler Road near Summerville, from Mixed-Use Community (MUC) to Commercial-Light Industrial (CLI).
- Rezoning Request No. 950 – More than 2,000 acres near Harleyville, currently Agricultural Residential (AR), proposed for Industrial (I) zoning.
Ward will also request approval to commission three new code enforcement officers – Chyna Grant, Daniel Kiemele and Derek Ward – to issue summons related to the county’s animal and environmental ordinances.
Committee meetings scheduled earlier in the evening include:
- Planning, Development and Building Committee (5:45 p.m.) – Public hearing and second reading for Rezoning Request No. 947, a proposal to rezone 4.42 acres at Gallashaw Road and Jedburg Road from Transitional Residential (TRM) to Commercial-Light Industrial (CLI).
- Water and Sewer Committee (5:55 p.m.) – Consideration of new sewer service for Dream Finders Homes’ Sweetgrass Station Phases 2A and 2B in Summerville.
The meeting will conclude with appointments or re-appointments to county boards and commissions before adjournment.
