North Hagerstown High School’s Black Student Union will host its annual Black History Bash to honor Black History Month. The event will take place 6:10-8:30 p.m. Feb. 26, according to a community announcement.
The event is open to students and families of all ages and backgrounds. It aims to acknowledge Black excellence and celebrate diverse cultures.
What is the Black History Bash?
The celebration will feature cultural performances, keynote speakers, music and food. Last year, the Black Student Union included performances from its step team and speeches from notable figures. Guests included Dr. Michael Chilcutt, Mayor Tekesha Martinez and representatives from South Hagerstown High School, Hagerstown Community College and the Doleman Black Heritage Museum.

The event received about 155 donations last year.
This year marks the third annual Black History Bash, according to the announcement. Speakers will include members of the Black Student Union, Chilcutt and a representative from the Diversity and Equity Committee.
Attendees also will recognize graduating seniors and enjoy performances by the school’s advanced orchestra and chorus. The step team, coached by Talithia Belasro and sponsored by Wendi Perry, also will perform.
Food and business highlights
The menu will include fried chicken and macaroni and cheese. One plate will cost $3, and two plates will be available for $5, according to the announcement.
This year, the event will highlight local Black-owned businesses such as LuvTreasured, which sells handmade beaded bracelets.
Visitors may enter through the main entrance of North Hagerstown High School and use the visitor parking spaces in front of the entrance.
