The Breakfast Club Spotlights VPM’s Declarations: Black Americans and the Revolutionary War Documentary


The hype is building for the premiere of VPM’s new documentary Declarations: Black Americans and the Revolutionary War!

This week, director Stacey L. Holman and Dr. Sesha Moon, co-founder of The JXN Project and one of the subjects from the film, along with Maya Tepler and Alphonso David, joined the influential morning radio show The Breakfast Club to discuss the film and its significance as we approach America’s 250th anniversary.

Declarations: Black Americans and the Revolutionary War is part of PBS America @ 250, a multiyear celebration of U.S. history, culture and children’s programming, which began in spring 2025 and continues through America’s Semiquincentennial in 2026 and beyond.

The film made its world premiere on June 20 in New York City at The Museum of the City of New York. The film premieres in Richmond at a sold-out screening hosted by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) on Monday, June 29 at 5:30 p.m. It will also make its on-air debut the same night at 9 p.m. on VPM PBS.

Declarations: Black Americans and the Revolutionary War will re-air on VPM PBS at 10 p.m. June 29, as well as on Thursday, July 2 at 8 p.m. and on Sunday July 5 at 2 p.m.
