Zambia: Two “Witchdoctors” Arrested Over Plot to Bewitch President Hichilema | Firstpost Africa
Zambia has arrested two suspects over an alleged plot to bewitch President Hakainde Hichilema. According to Zambian police, the suspects were found in possession of assorted charms, including a live chameleon, and alleged to be practising “witchdoctors”. The police have said that the two were on a purported mission of using charms to harm the head of state. The police also believe that the two suspects were hired by the brother of opposition leader Jay Banda to bewitch the president, and will be charged under the law for cruelty to animals and practising witchcraft in the country. However, the arrest drew criticism from rights groups calling for the government to free the suspects. It has also raised several questions. Was witchcraft used to plot the assassination of President Hichilema or is the government trying to crack down on the opposition linking them to “witchdoctors”? Watch the video to know more.
