African Union summit concludes with calls for M23 to disarm and withdraw from DRC

The deepening crisis in eastern DRC was one of the top issues discussed at the African Union’s annual summit.
Leaders from across the continent gathered for the event in Ethiopia’s capital but the DRC’s president, Felix Tshisekedi, did not attend.

Al Jazeera’s Haru Mutasa sent this report from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

  1. ☪ "Do not hurt me regarding Aisha, as the Divine Inspirations do not come to me on any of the beds ثَوْبِ except that of Aisha." << Sahih al-Bukhari 2581 >> 🌙

ثَوْبِ means dress / gown or garment.

  2. This is not really right, you as our leaders should call every party involved in this listen to them then make a conclusion. Now you are making decisions when the president of congo is not there m23 not represented it is useless kabisa. You are only going to get innocent citizens dead and displaced!

  3. These people/ African leaders should admit that the reason that they’re concerned is because of their interest in looting mines in Congo. Unfortunately their best interest is not in building Africa but in their support for some of the West to suppress Africa/Africans. These African leaders should resign. How long are Africans going to endure this suppression? These mines should be used to build infrastructure, schools and etc… in Congo and other countries in Africa. Look at Congo, the richest country in the world in terms of mines; it’s the poorest because all of its mines are looted and taken to the West and looted by some African leaders instead of collectively working to gather to use them in the best interest of the African people.

  4. Those that are saying that M23 should withdraw are waisting their time. M23 will stay and will claim what’s theirs. How about the leaders that know better than to destroy Africa, how about they look into the borders that were made by colonials; borders that were made with no regard to the people that lived there, borders that were illegally made, borders that took away territory from people. This should be addressed in whichever organization in Germany that will talk about The Berlin Conference, where such decisions were made and remove these borders.

  5. We all know Rwanda funds and supports the M23 rebels. Their control of the minerals within the DRC supplies Rwandan exports to Europe. European nations have contracts with Rwanda for those minerals.

IS THERE ANY WAY TO STOP THESE CONTRACTS OR PREVENT RWANDA FROM EXPORTING ANY MINERALS TO ANYONE ??????? THERE IS NO NEED FOR MILITARY INTERVENTION !!!!!!!!

The US control of those mineral resources might undermine those European contracts and in turn, defund the M23 rebels, however, the ethnic conflict will very likely still continue, because as an example, the previous Hutu and Tutsi genocide did not involve sophisticated weapons.
Avoid convoluted negotiations, just institute some kind of protectorate control of the mineral resources immediately until it can be resolved who benefits from it and how. And then recognize and address tribal claims.
