12 dead, dozens hurt as a bus overturns in South Africa | LiveNOW from FOX

On Tuesday, a bus overturned on a South African highway and passengers were thrown out of it, killing at least 12 people and injuring 45 in Johannesburg, emergency services said. Emergency crews were trying to lift the bus back onto its wheels to see if any more victims were trapped underneath it, said William Nthladi, a spokesperson for the city’s Ekurhuleni Emergency Management. “On arrival we found patients lying across the road,” Nthladi said. The bodies of some of the victims lay on the highway near the bus and were covered with silver blankets. Two bodies were still trapped in the wreckage, Nthladi said. Handbags, a lunch box and a water bottle were visible among the belongings. “We are lost for words. This is a disaster,” said Andile Mngwevu, a local city councillor who went to the scene. “To see so many bodies lying around is quite saddening, and the city really feels for the families who would have expected to see their loved ones return home later today. Our hearts are extremely heavy right now.”

  1. SHAME !

The news didn't mentioned ME on the news in 2019 when they have tried twice to kill me in a car accident. 😡👎

My car crashed into 2 barriers, a MASSIVE IMPACT that I survived. I did not even report it at the police because I know South-Africa don't CARE about me.

    Sharon Coetzee.

  2. This is a daily thing in SA. The bus and truck drivers are 99% foreigners who "buy" their licences. So they drive with whichever countries' license they have.
Then they speed to get more loads. And work overtime to make more money. They'll drive e without rest or sleep. South Africas are so used to this, we are immune to see it.
Another thing is when foreign drivers have problems with their bosses, they intentionally crash the vehicles and flee.

  3. Apparently a car in front of the bus had missed it’s exit and hit the breaks to try still go that direction but unfortunately the bus tried to break and avoid hitting the vehicle, in which he overturned. Very sad and unfortunately very common on our South African roads… definitely a very dangerous place to be. Be safe out there and always be cautious and aware.

  4. This is ehat happens if you have a bus that has not been maintained….roads that is full of potholez..and a driver that cant drive….

And sadly this wont stop until we have metro cops that actualy do a job..and stop taking bribes…and a goverment that stop stealing all the money..and maintain the roads..

  5. I doubt if there's anything wrong with the bus. It is the driver's behavior. City council bus drivers, putco bus drivers , taxi drivers and some of our black motorist drivers. are driving very reckless on our roads , It has become a habit particularly black drivers, yes i am also black but abafowethu nabodadewethu do not respect rules of road.. It is so sad to see School transporters driving our children to school in such a reckless way , Taxis carrying passengers driving reckless . Bus drivers carrying passengers driving reckless. and they are not obeying rules of the road Traffic cops are simply turning a blind eye .The current government is to blame for all the catastrophe we are witnessing daily. What a pity more accident of this nature are still going to happen because of the irresponsible driver behavior

  6. ROTFLMAO!!!!!!! Would americans and fox news even care about a bus crash in South Africa if elon mush wasn't alreading such a big part of US politics? I doubt it very highly because most americans couldn't care about any other country in the world other than themselves.

  7. Let's be honest these busses travel long distances and don't have any sit belts for passengers just like taxi's. I think the traffic department should have new laws that requests these bus companies to have have sit belts and no passengers standing if they're going to travel long distances.
