There is evidence a renewables revolution could be beginning to take hold in Africa.
The global energy think tank Ember suggests that imports of solar panels are up by 60% over the 12 months to June, compared with the previous year.
The data shows 20 African nations set new records for solar panel imports over the period, including Algeria, Zambia, Botswana and Sudan.

The colonialist never cared abt Africa, never built any infrastructure, power generation, water treatment, just took and left. Now China the king of infrastructure is helping build up Africa, highways, rail, solar, ….. and foster economic cooperation and trade. And now the West call this a debt trap lol, you had decades to do good in Africa but you just took. Your days of exploitation are over. Africa will now benefit its people.
That's because everyone was buying, before Trumps tariffs kicked in. 🙄😔
Good to learn that Africa is getting energy.
We need energy for homes, schools, businesses, etc.,
But at what cost?~~~~~ lol
Africa is developing fast! Future is in Africa
BBC: But at what cost? (she meant to say even if she didn'r)
While the USA is isolating itself, China is exporting cheap products for Africa and building infrastructure.
Fantastic. Now let's make some of these panels in Africa.
solar makes so much sense for africa. The grids in many countries aren't as well connected so local solar panels makes for many towns and they're also much cheaper upfront which means no large investment is needed
Nirob Ahmed 🇧🇩
Thanks you china
不要相信英国人。
他们是白色的虚伪的殖民者,这一点从未改变。
Africa should stop pillage China solar panels.
Although China solar panels are cheap but are ideologically inferior.😂
I like how people have to explain themselves extensively when they have to Chinese products 😂
It is a cheap compromise,Like a dormitory!
USA asentaa Afrikkaan Aurinkovoimaa. USA MEDIA
Solar panel made in China.
😂
But at what cost??????????????????
If UK could provide affordable solar panels products, I think Africans would be glad to see the commercial competition.
Unfortunately, none from UK (neither US because of Trump)
Isn't that a wonderful thing?
When China provides affordable public products, thw western medias will smear them. What a shame.
Most African countries lack electricity infrastructures. Solar panels can quickly solve the problems. People can easily connect the solar panels to the water pumps, to drill underground water for watering farms and feeding animals. This is how to satisfy the basic physical needs.
have you thanked China ?
Cheap solar panel helped poor African countries and people. Also it helped reducing CO2 emission for all humankind. And western countries are complaining this, maybe because they think the temperature isn't high enough int their cities and refuges populations are not big enough for them to receive.
The prices of solar panels have fallen dramatically!
In 2025, you can get 430Wp panels starting at $35.
Over 25 years, they generate approx. 10 to 20 thousand kWh for less than 2 cents/kWh!
英国人美国人都一帮废物,在非洲什么事情都干不了。
I would be glad to see those panels produced in Europe or even better Africa. But I can't blame China for European politicans killing domestic solar production to boost selling of "cheap" Russian gas.
Only China is fixing the world
China sells cheap solar panels to Africa for a one-time fee, it produces little to no pollution, the energy is then used in Africa, the profit it generates goes to Africans. And BBC says no you're breaking the rules, you're supposed to exploit these people like we did for centuries.
What's up with that BBC anchor's sour face? 😅
with cheap electricity accessible to African people, we will see more cheap electric scooter, electric bike, and EV cars in Africa countries.
"quagmire"?
Again, BBC try to start that "at what cost" story!
What a great interview to show Africa is rising !
Yet again, China actually helps countries whilst the west hinders them.
250 million population of Nigeria, i didn't know that. good luck, i hope things improve.
But at what cost? You are working with Chinaaaaaa
This is probably one of the best trends that could ever happen.
Cheap solar panels from China –> Cheap energy for Africa –> effective production + lifting millions of people out of poverty + improved health, sanitation, education –> more demand for solar panels –> cheaper solar panels –> less pollution, more renewable energies … I could go on and on.
If you are trying to find some negative aspect to this, or trying to spin it in any black-white manner, you are really just a sold out bad person imo
“But at what cost?”
Every “Made in China” purchase helps sustain a system that props up authoritarian regimes. Rethink the label.
Chinese Industry is facilitating one of the greatest rises in standards of living and development in the third world. The success of China against the US in this ongoing Trade War is in the interest of all developing countries who wish to see an end to the western monopoly on technology and their stranglehold over the global economy which has done nothing but reduce the third world to petty resource extraction colonies and the citizens of the first world itself to little more than slaves for the billionaire class.
BUT. AT WHAT COST !!!
but at what cost?😊
