South African politician Dr Mamphela Ramphele disagreed with a TV presenter over the framing of Israel’s genocide in Gaza as a “Holocaust”. The TV presenter called the comparison “provocative” and said both events were “different”.
But Dr Ramphele insisted that if people continued to insist the Holocaust was separate from other atrocities, they would fail to learn the lessons of history.
