The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) in Gauteng says taxi operations will only be shut down in parts of Ekurhuleni.
This follows threats of a shutdown in the province on Thursday after officials from the Transport Department impounded 17 taxis for offences, including unroadworthy vehicles.

I hear e-hailing operators are excited, but for an ordinary S/African who is working at the factory e-hailing is extreme expensive ,, yester i saw people walking on Pretoria road from Kempton to Thembisa,, this need to be resolved ASAP by Governement , we cant see an opportunity to reap-off the low earning community, i speak from a better position but not blind not to see black brothers/sisters struggling on road side. One industry that can hold a country at ransom watch the space
The more the taxi industry continues to do this at random, the more the community comes up with means and ways to get around without them which might end up as a permanent alternative. So in the long run, taxis might be a thing of the past. It will obviously take a long while but once people are fed up/angry enough…the industry will know/feel it.
I spend also R280 on Uber yesterday, from Tembisa to Alex there was no taxi at all 😢
