SANTACO Strike | Taxi operations disrupted in Ekurhuleni

The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) in Gauteng says taxi operations will only be shut down in parts of Ekurhuleni.

This follows threats of a shutdown in the province on Thursday after officials from the Transport Department impounded 17 taxis for offences, including unroadworthy vehicles.

Let’s cross to SABC News Reporter Mbalenhle Mthethwa for an update on the taxi story..

  1. I hear e-hailing operators are excited, but for an ordinary S/African who is working at the factory e-hailing is extreme expensive ,, yester i saw people walking on Pretoria road from Kempton to Thembisa,, this need to be resolved ASAP by Governement , we cant see an opportunity to reap-off the low earning community, i speak from a better position but not blind not to see black brothers/sisters struggling on road side. People already depressed financially , u cant expect someone making 10k to pay R300/trip, no no guys that's so unjust 🥲,,

  2. Santaco dont stop your stupid strike and see how many of you will loose their taxis,a week is too much, indlala ngiyibekile nenzani engathi aninandaba Nathi abagibeli, asikolodi ama bank singabagibeli, azkhale madoda nizozibuyela Nina erank ningabiziwe nje🤣🤣🤞

  3. The more the taxi industry continues to do this at random, the more the community comes up with means and ways to get around without them which might end up as a permanent alternative. So in the long run, taxis might be a thing of the past. It will obviously take a long while but once people are fed up/angry enough…the industry will know/feel it.

  4. Blocking traffic routes is sabotaging public roadways and should be treated as terrorism against the state .
Impound the entire lot of taxi' and remove the taxi license from those taxi bosses involved in the terrorist attack kn public
