Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has been sworn in for a second term amid tight security, following an election marred by violent protests and rejected by the opposition as a sham.

Samia was declared the winner on Saturday with 98% of the vote – but she faced little opposition with key rival candidates either imprisoned or barred from running.

International observers have raised concerns about the transparency of the election and its violent aftermath, with hundreds of people reportedly killed.

  1. I still feel there is a way to explain all this beyond Hassan killing people. The United States loves this. Remember what happened to Libya…don't fall for traps….Africa should wake the hell up and stop calling for external.help

  2. I get goosebumps when these foreign white owned news outlets start commenting on Africa's matters. Let us fix them on our own. Tanzania, don't let the UN or USA in please!!….

  3. Peace all country please mam and sir 🙏 what is doing please help them tanzania people and sudan people they are need you all Africa country you will together you will safe and sound our countrys from this mafia

  4. Samir Suluhu Hassan, her Army Commander, and Defence Minister MUST be charged for Crimes Against Humanity by the International Criminal Court (ICC). Any African leader who condones what happened in Tanzania must equally be cited by the ICC as co-perpetrators.

In 2007-2008, there was post election violence in Kenya. In 2010, among others, Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto were charged by the ICC for Crimes Against Humanity, although Kenyatta was only the deputy president and Ruto was Education Minister at the time of the election violence in 2007-2008.

According to case records available on the ICC website:
"Pre-Trial Chamber II ruled that there were reasonable grounds to believe that William Ruto and Henry Kosgey were criminally responsible as indirect co-perpetrators of the crimes outlined in counts 1, 2 and 4. In the case of Kenyatta, Muthaura, and Ali, the Chamber ruled that there were reasonable grounds to believe that Uhuru Kenyatta and Francis Muthaura were guilty as indirect co-perpetrators of the crimes of which they were accused."

Count 1 – Murder, constituting a crime against humanity in violation of article 7(1)(a) of the Rome Statute.
Count 2 – Deportation or forcible transfer of a population, constituting a crime against humanity in violation of article 7(1)(d) of the Rome Statute
Count 4 – Persecution, constituting a crime against humanity in violation of article 7(1)(h) of the Rome Statute. While the charges against Kenyatta and Ruto have since been vacated or withdrawn, two of the co-accused Walter Barasa and Philip Bett still have their cases active and, as such, remain fugitives.

If the ICC is really relevant, the incidents in Tanzania are yet another opportunity for them to prove so. Let the ICC include another Count Torture, constituting a crime against humanity in violation of article 7(1)(f) of the Rome Statute.

African leaders have been committing so many atrocities in a bid to remain in power, notably arrest and torture of opponents and critics of incumbent presidents. It is time we rewrote this tolerance by the ICC and their deliberate ignorance of crimes committed against humanity, otherwise let them be disbanded as they serve no purpose to Africans who are on the barbaric and brutal receiving end of authoritarian regimes.

  5. In a few weeks everything will be swept under the carpet as if nothing happenned. where are the West when Africa needs them.
Same thing happenned in Uganda in 2021 ,when dictator Museveni killed over 200 people in Kampala,
Now its business as usual..shake hands and more funding.
