In just under a fortnight, leaders from some of the world’s major economies will gather in South Africa’s economic heartland, Johannesburg, for the G20 summit.
But just a few kilometres from the spruced-up, highly secure venue is a city centre which the authorities are struggling to improve and keep safe.
They face major challenges in cleaning up more than 100 derelict buildings, many plagued by rubbish and open sewage, some of which have been taken over by criminal gangs.

These buildings are not going to be on the G20 route…the clean-up of the city meant …rush job fix of potholes (private companies have done more than local gov) and traffic lights along the arterial roads en route to Sandton etc…wrong video title for the content…a whole different story nothing much to do with G20. The G20 isn't happening in the CBD. The journalism is a bit off here…

Johannesburg is a pothole, a cesspit. Nothing is good in Johannesburg, not the city, not the politicians, not the people. It is the toilet of all cities. I lived and worked there for a year and couldn’t wait to get out. There wasn’t a single honest person in the work place and it was 1 of the big corporates, everyone was horrible liars, deceitful and shameless.
