Latta’s first Black mayor

History was made Sunday in the town of Latta.

Nearly a hundred people from across the community, including family, friends, and local leaders, filled Weston chapel Sunday evening to witness the swearing-in of the town’s first-ever Black, and youngest mayor, Marcus McGirt.

McGirt is no stranger to public service. He previously served on Latta town council for several years before deciding to run for mayor against opponent Rick Watson.
