Today, the administration in Hargeisa has lost control of over 55% of the land it claims, with its authority shrinking to a mere 45% of the former British protectorate. With the recognition of SSC-Khaatumo as a Federal Member State on April 14, the eastern regions have permanently returned to Somalia. When you add the rising Awdal State movement in the west, it is clear that Hargeisa only controls its own clan's urban centers like Berbera and Burao.
