AFCON’s Silent Fan: Passion, Protest & Controversies In Africa | First Sports With Rupha Ramani

AFCON 2025-26 once again proved why African football cannot be boxed into cliches. From breathtaking performances on the pitch to a moment of haunting silence in the stands, this tournament delivered raw emotion like no other. One fan from the Democratic Republic of Congo went viral for standing motionless for 90 minutes: a powerful tribute to the nation’s first Prime Minister, Patrice Lumumba. While the football spoke volumes, controversy followed too, with suspensions and fines reminding players where passion must end and discipline begin. Unpolished, unfiltered, and unapologetically intense, this is AFCON in its truest form, where football is never just a game. Rupha Ramani brings you how AFCON has finally found its colour.

  1. The worst AFCON ever, riddled with match fixing (corruption)

Empty stadiums because of tickets being over priced!

This sport gathering is lacking all the ingredients associated with the past AFCON finals.

This shows why they removed Blatter ❗️
Blatter had love for the beautiful game plaas his love for Africa.

Issa Haatoyu & Blatter was the best ever combination soccer shall ever get.

    Glory days are dead……..

  2. This man is reminding the people and the world about the suffering of the people of Congo, the reason why he raise his hand, in 1884 the colonisers decided to give Congo as a gift to Belgium, the made the people slaves and if anyone who dose not meet the daily target of working free, the Belgium will cut their hands and their kids hand. This man had never forgot about the suffering of the innocent people under the white colonisers

  3. This is the most dignified and poignant act I have ever seen in football. I can only compliment this gentleman on his courage. I am Nigerian, but this goes to my heart because the Murder of Patrice Emery Lumumba was an injustice that has never been addressed. The enemies of humanity killed Lumumba.

  4. Life offers profound lessons. Those who orchestrated the assassination of Patrice Lumumba have long since passed away, fading into obscurity. Yet, the spirit of the man they believed they had silenced continues to resonate, proving that his legacy will endure far beyond their misguided intentions.

  5. 😳🤔✊🏿, Patrice Lumumba , They Can Assassin The Messenger But They Can’t Assassin The Messenge As It Influences Generations To Generations From Centuries To Centuries Around The World 😳🤔✊🏿

  6. Who dares to question Africa's football supremacy? Come to think of it: Only La Republique du Cameroun has at least four regulars on the French national squad–Hugo Eketike, Auralien Chouameni, Mbape, and William Saliba. Just imagine those four being integrated into the Indomitable Lions!
