BREAKING: COUP ATTEMPT IN BURKINA FASO

On January 3, 2026, security forces in Burkina Faso arrested alleged coup plotters before they could strike—marking a major shift in how this coup-prone nation handles internal threats.

What Happened:
Former transitional leader Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, exiled in Togo since September 2022, allegedly orchestrated a plot to attack the drone command center, assassinate key leadership figures, and coordinate with jihadist groups. But intelligence services intercepted all communications, arrested plotters at 11 PM, and shut down the operation before it began.

Why It Matters:
This isn’t the Burkina Faso of 2014-2022, when coups were the primary way power changed hands. Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s government has consolidated control through strengthened intelligence agencies, making future coup attempts exponentially harder. The question now: at what cost to freedom and democracy?

Topics Covered:
✓ Timeline of Burkina’s three successful coups since 2014
✓ Why Damiba’s comeback failed where Kaboré’s fell
✓ The role of intelligence in the new security state
✓ Citizen mobilization and popular support for Traoré
✓ Regional implications: AES bloc vs. ECOWAS
✓ Why Western media is silent on this story

  1. I'm sorry, but the Western media hardly reports on anything never mind. And what's going on in an African country look at Nigeria, no report and hardly on that. There is only so cold right-wing news channels who have reported on the terrorist killings of Christians. In Nigeria, the other news channels are all left. Wing. A nice support, Islamist terrorist.n S, that is the problem, not the people, not generally, even the leaders of the country. The actual news channels themselves.

  2. What they can do is leared this man back, catch him and imprison him, this present government is doing so much for Burkina Faso,he want power to rob the people of Burkina Faso, his own country,he is a sell out to other nations to steal the wealth of his own country, that Judas and traitor, the people love this man Ibrahim,he has a hard fight,so he will not win,he was corrupted, that's why he was remove,to somebody better than him,❤

  3. as an Moroccan -Duch person I am really happy with the humble leader Ibrahim Toarae he put his country first thats abvious he has a shift more in 3 jears than all leaders before , is that not enough for those traitors willing to collabored whit incompetend Western backed traitors , Brahim is a smart millitary man he will take every security mgr to prevent a nother coup , he has to smoke out those rotten appels from the community who collaboreds with external enemies to attack Burkina Fasoe

  4. But what will the man trying so hard to destroy Ibrahim Traore do different and better than Ibrahim Traore for Burkina Faso and Africa? This is what he should tell the world instead of wasting his time and eventually his life trying to kill Ibrahim Traore. He should also know that if he kills Ibrahim Traore, the people of Burkina Faso will not let him live to rule them or enjoy his success over 24 hours!
