Ghana Accelerates Resource Nationalism, Takes Control of Damang Gold Mine | Firstpost Africa | N18G

Ghana is accelerating its push for resource nationalism by reclaiming control of the Damang gold mine in the Western Region, which was operated by South Africa’s Gold Fields for 30 years. The government seized the mine in April last year after rejecting a lease renewal, citing failure to declare verifiable reserves. Three local bidders are being considered, with Ibrahim Mahama’s Engineers and Planners firm the frontrunner, having worked at Damang for 25 years and secured over $200 million in financing. New mining rules, higher royalties, and local content requirements aim to boost Ghanaian revenue, though foreign governments warn of higher costs. The decision could set a precedent for African nations reclaiming natural resources.

  1. Its our lands and we sole must rake its high rewards, destroying our environmental soil.. We can't receive peanut profits. We must develop our Nation… They've profited for years without building roads schools, hospitals… We need the money to do alal that

  2. That guy is doing it for his brother, Ibrahim Mahama but not in genuine national interest..
He has already twisted the hands of one legit owner of Black Volta (Azumah mines) and given it to his brother (same Ibrahim Mahama)..whilst at the same time trying all means to collapse another Ghanaian mines (Akonta mining) via witch hunting.., causing the owner to be in court literally every 3 days..

He wants all the riches and mineral resources in Ghana to go to himself and his family..

  3. Mrs. News reporter, what would you do if I came to your shop to buy a wholesale of shoes and refused to leave, I decided to request all your stuck with force or you have to accept 1% per product. What would you do?
Maybe you could answer these questions? Those days are over.
