Uganda’s Army Chief, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has ignited a fresh wave of controversy following a series of provocative social media posts regarding the conflict in West Asia. The General, who is the son of President Yoweri Museveni, declared unwavering support for Israel, asserting that the Ugandan People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) would intervene if Israel’s existence were threatened. In one of his posts, Kainerugaba suggested that a single Ugandan brigade could capture the Iranian capital, Tehran, within two weeks. While highlighting historical ties with Israel, he also announced plans to erect a statue at Entebbe International Airport honouring Israeli PM Netanyahu’s slain brother, Yonatan Netanyahu, who was killed during the famous 1976 hostage rescue, Operation Thunderbolt.
