The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Prince William County Chapter invites the public to their annual Community Health & Wellness Expo this April 11 at 10 a.m.
The event will be hosted at Gar-field Senior High School in Woodbridge. There will be free health screenings and a presentation by a panelist of physicians.
Attendees should keep in mind that this event will be more than just pamphlets; they will receive free health screenings, such as body mass index, blood pressure, oral health and more. There will be a panel with experts for oncology, OBGYN, a nutritionist, a spiritual advisor, and more.
Unique Health and Wellness Expo
The coalition’s expo will focus on more than physical and spiritual wellness. Check out their Nine Dimensions of Wellness, encompassing:
- Physical Wellness: Encourages health and fitness activities such as eating healthily, exercising and getting adequate sleep.
- Spiritual Wellness: Focuses on finding purpose in life, exploring values and living in alignment with them.
- Emotional Wellness: Supports understanding and managing emotions effectively.
- Occupational Wellness: Promoting personal satisfaction and enrichment through work and career goals.
- Financial Wellness: Encouraging sound financial management, budgeting and planning for future stability.
- Social Wellness: Promotes building healthy relationships with friends, family and others, while developing communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Creative Wellness: Highlights the value of participating in arts and cultural experiences, as well as expressing emotions through creativity.
- Environmental Wellness: Recognizes the importance of preserving and protecting our environment.
- Intellectual Wellness: Encourages activities that stimulate mental growth, learning and problem-solving.
“Wellness is a multifaceted concept that goes beyond physical health to include achieving goals, satisfying needs, and developing effective coping skills,” said the coalition’s president, Sharon Stone.
Stone added on that everyone can recognize the impact of their surroundings on their health. From there, they can take action to protect, improve and enjoy their natural and built environments.
She said this ranges from the ability to go for walks to pollution (noise, waste).
“Emotional wellness [a dimension listed above]is understanding, accepting and managing your feelings, and navigating life’s challenges with optimism and resilience. These [dimensions]impact how we show up each day.”
She said each dimension contributes to an individual’s overall well-being.
“This Expo will offer an engaging platform for attendees to gain valuable insights, participate in interactive activities and connect with resources to support holistic well-being,” said Stone.

Collaboration
The event is open to everyone in the community. Stone said, “We all need to be aware of the dimensions of wellness – from our children to adults in all socio-economic and geographical areas.”
A few sororities and fraternities of the Divine 9, and Jack & Jill, Inc. are in partnership with the coalition. She said partnerships show unity and broad reach. They also partner with Prince William County Schools and Parks and Recreation.
