NEW BERN, N.C. (WECT) – Update: the teenager was found safe according to a post from the State Bureau of Investigation.

The New Bern Police Department is searching for a missing child, Isaiah Kavon Owens.
Police described Owens as a 15-year-old Black male, about 5 feet 4 inches tall and 100 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and red and blue sneakers. Police said Owens is autistic and has a speech delay.
Investigators believe Owens may be with Kenneth Lee Brantley, who police described as a 43-year-old Black male, about 5 feet 2 inches tall and 162 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with a colorful design and gray pants.
Police said they may be traveling in a black 2012 GMC Yukon with South Carolina license plate XFH752.

According to WECT’s sister station, WITN, New Bern Police initially responded to a report of a child abduction around 3:15 a.m.
According to WITN, officers say Owens was in a hotel room asleep with his mother, Lacathy Britt, a man named Larry Tompkins and his brother Kenneth Brantley Jr. Reports say they woke up to banging on the door, when Tompkins answered, he encountered multiple people, including Kenneth Brantley Sr.
WITN reports Brantley Sr. pointed a gun at Tompkins and took his son and Isiah. According to police, a BOLO (Be on the Lookout) has been issued for the 2012 GMC. Brantley Sr. may be traveling to his home in Marion, South Carolina.
