How quickly we brush aside the humiliation they served us when African leaders extended a hand for peace, only to be met with disdain. Ukrainian ministers openly mocked our efforts, declaring that Africans lacked the capacity, the development, the intelligence to even grasp the complexities of their war.
And do we forget the Ukrainian soldier who went viral, laughing at us, ridiculing our people with their "OOGA-BOOGA" and "KUKANKANG" mockeries, a performance dripping with colonial arrogance, showing nothing but contempt for African dignity?
They disrespected us, disrespected our leaders, disrespected African diplomacy, and yet here we are, still so eager, so open, to have them to sit at our table. I understand that as Africans we pride ourselves on forgiveness, on diplomacy, on maturity. But when will we show that same understanding, that same fierce protection, to ourselves?
