African Union Slams Tanzania’s Election as Flawed, Urges Reforms | Firstpost Africa | N18G

Tanzania’s recent election has sparked major controversy and international concern. A new African Union report says the election failed to meet democratic standards, citing ballot stuffing, an internet blackout and politically motivated intimidation. The Southern African Development Community has issued similar criticism. President Samia Suluhu Hassan claimed victory with 98 percent of the vote in a largely unopposed race, while opposition leaders were barred or detained ahead of polling day. Protests erupted across Tanzania, with security forces accused of using deadly force, live bullets and tear gas. Opposition party Chadema alleges hundreds were killed and buried in mass graves, claims the government denies. Meanwhile, opposition figures continue to face arrests, including terrorism charges against Chadema’s vice president John Heche.

  1. Truth delayed but finaly spoken. But why the double speak? The AU chair congratulated the rogoe leader of Tz after killing people, rigging elections and now cracking down hard on her own citizens? The Au doesnt have intel or can’t see the obvious until they get advised

  2. Every day Mama Samia continues to provoke these attacks upon innocent civilians and tourists, is a day that the rest of the world will remember. America must cease all aid and funding to Tanzania until this violence is stopped! No more aid ans no more tourists while Samia slaughters her people!

  3. We Tanzania youth we call upon international human rights and criminal court to take this into consideration, 29 for tree day we were locked down no access to food no access to Media, no where to go, please help us. No assurance of life even if you speak of God will

  4. Our President Your President My President.

she is going to be there for only this next term, she has been developing her own country. when her term end she will go. Stop this rubbish and let Tanzania move on

  6. Stop the Stupidity of Reporting Petty Stuff.. Tanzania has Moved on.. Tanzanians have Elected their president and she has Started Working Full And Faast.. These Shananigans of Africam Union is Just an Opinion and the Opinion can be Accepted of Rected and Tanzania has Rejected it.. Period.

  7. 8. An alleged estimate of 3000 dead in five days and the AU is finally saying something after already congratulating Samia aka Idi Amin Mama. What's the mandate of the AU anyway; to feed retired African politicians?? They we have so much wrong in Africa and they seem unmoved by it. Maybe they need a Gen-z visit as well?

  9. There’s no investigation that will be done by these corrupt authorities
The only good thing they will do is abduction of any contrary voice
And whatever orders they receive from such murderers

  10. not even a single photograph or video of the mass graves and massacres, these are just rumours spread by Kenyan journalists with an agenda. questions on elections and voting are justified but the rest of the story is ballocks.
