Why China is Cutting Loans to Africa Even As Its Exports Grow | Vantage With Palki Sharma | N18G

China’s trade with Africa is rising even as its lending slows. China’s exports to Africa climbed to $225 billion last year, while Africa’s exports to China were $123 billion. The shift comes as Chinese firms look for new markets after US-China tariffs and a truce in October 2025, with Chinese goods to the US still taxed at 48%. China’s lending to Africa peaked near $29 billion in 2016 but fell to $2.1 billion in 2024. Reports say China funded six projects in 2024 and is increasingly issuing loans in yuan, including in Kenya. So, what is China’s game plan in Africa?

  2. China is not Father Christmas for Africa. They want Chinese money but still sucking up to Trump. When is Africa waking up?? All the loans taken from anyone are not used for their countries, probably just 20%, the rest is for politicians whilst ordinary citizens are burdened with the debt. It's worse in SA, workers are paying highest tax in the world whilst politicians are driving in fancy cars

  3. why is this a problem? pulki has been accusing china of drowning africa in a debt trap. now they are cutting back on their loans. do you want africa to keep borrowing and borrowing and borrowing like using a credit card? it shows the loans have managed to improve infrastructure and africa is able to export more and improve its economy. the african nations are able slowly stand on it's own two feet without resorting to borrowing and borrowing to survive.. like america. it also shows china is a responsible lender, they want africa to clear off some of their loans first before allowing to borrow more. they are not loan sharks which force victims to keep borrowing and borrowing

  4. … doesn't need to their Silk Road/Rope strategy has gained them a strangle-hold in a number of African nations… there will be more national asset transfers/seizures on the cards…. woefully naive by African leaders. 😊

  5. What was Palki headline when America wanted to stop giving their free and hard earn money as Aid to Africa which they've been doing since 1980s? She called Trump a racist. These people are not reporters. They are parasites

  6. Complaining about China investing in Africa is hypocritical. Many African countries are poor, so would you rather that they beg for non-existent loans from the US and India instead? Who else, besides China, is even investing as much into their economies and taking all that risk? It is still cheaper to borrow money in Chinese Yuan than in US dollars. Chinese Yuan yields are only less than 2%. US yields are 3-4+%. So does it make sense to borrow in USD or in Chinese Yuan?
