Sinn Féin TD Thomas Gould says he’d only recently learned the majority of Irish people who travelled to Jamaica came from Cork and Munster and brought their accents with them.

Love this man.
We truly celebrate every one but our own! His speech was wonderful, but giving love to an accent, is literally wild! No disrespect, but why not give this same respect to, for instance the gay people living on the island? It’s just an honest question?
Many of the slaves owners were of Irish stock
😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤ mi irish side is from the very
My irish great great grandad was one of them people, we have a distant black cousin in America same with my misses her family did the same
Up the Irish 😂😂
Not looks like Irish flag on his chest 🤮
I've often thought some irish accents sound like Jamaicans 😂
Wish people would actually listen to his message instead of his accent The Irish have been shat on for too long
Welcome to irie land
🇮🇪🎶☘💎❤
Cork, my love
In the words of my Irish friend "go somewhere with a weird accent. Find some Irish men in the middle of it"
I still want to disagree. Still trying to find a good example 😅
He spoke out too about the Genocide in Gaza. 👏👍
There are people out there saying he's too old to contribute. But it's only his generation that are making valid contributions.
Makes sence most people wanna b either English or jamican 💯🤣
All i hear is pure cork lol
BBC- Irish man caught in race row over mocking a Jamaican accent
When I lived with 2 cork lads and I’m from the North the 3 of us would have to speak slow because we found it hard to understand each other. After awhile I was able to understand
There are loads of Irish talk like that its the obes in the country of Ireland 🇮🇪 and the Dublin people call them culches 😅
Will somebody take some bomboclat responsebility already?!

Several African languages and not dialects Sir.
Bomba cork
I thought he was welsh at first 😂
And people are only now discovering this link? It goes to show that British people don’t know their own history or that of the colonies they once ruled over.
I’ve thought that Irish sounds Jamaican 😂
I CAN'T WAIT FOR HIM TO LEARN "RASS-CLAAT" AND "BOMBO-CLAAT"
😂 🤣 🇯🇲🇯🇲❤️
That palestine pin. What a man
I'm from Trinidad & Tobago and I've thought for years that the Irish, Scottish and Welsh accents are more similar to English speaking Caribbean accents than "proper" English accents are to ours.
Good important points.
Unlikely, no no. Integral. There are thousands of people in Jamaica of Africa/Irish descent.
In Jamaica there is a town called Irish Town. Also in Jamaica potatoes are called Irish potatoes and sea moss is called Irish moss. So the influence is stronger than most people thought.
JA MAN!
Our whole deal for a few centuries was purposefully ruining the English language and then exporting that process overseas! 😀 🇮🇪
Grand bit of revenge and craic. You’re welcome!
They weren't indentured servants they were slaves.
Indentured servants are allowed to own land. The irish weren't.
His speech is spot on!
Why is it unlikely? There's literally Irish Jamaicans still living in Jamaica.
wtf are yous on about that’s a strong cork accent.
Where are yous getting this from lads seriously.
A welcome burst of joy in colonial Europe from further across the pond.
Yeah, but it doesn’t explain why he finished his speech by saying Jah Rastafari 😂
Common Irish Win
Love the Palestine pin as well.
He has a good accents
That's right!
We got our accents from the Irish as they were the first indentured slaves in the Caribbean. They got their freedom after serving their sentence. We got slavery for life.
Thanks for not playing any of the freakin video 🤦🏻♂️
