Tanzania Charges Election Protesters With Treason After President Hassan’s Win | Firstpost Africa

Tanzania charged more than 200 people with treason following violent protests over last month’s disputed presidential election. President Samia Suluhu Hassan claimed victory with 98% of the vote, but opposition leaders branded the poll a “sham.” Hundreds of protesters were brought to court in Dar es Salaam, facing charges of “conspiracy to commit treason.” Lawyers allege widespread torture and abuse in detention. The opposition party CHADEMA says at least 800 people were killed in the post-election crackdown, with senior leaders now under arrest or in hiding. The African Union has said Tanzania’s vote failed to meet democratic standards, as the country faces mounting criticism for its handling of political dissent.

  1. compiling clips from tz. have thousands of views on the government genocide. cant forget this. sent most of them to CNN they have a documentary and many independents are making some as well

  2. Fuck First Point SHIt… wWe have told you To Stop Asking Stupid Kenyans in Kenya about Tanzania Issues. Kenyans are Enemies Of Tanzanians as We Speak.. How is the Enemy Can Talk Something that Make Sense to Tanzanians or Tanzania? We Tanzanians Don’t Care about “Naren’s” or any Other Kenyan talking About Tanzania while they Same Kenyans want Tanzania to Go Down just like Kenya and Some Kenyans contributed to Tanzania Violence.. Again Please Look for a Oure Tanzanian Commentator who is Actually in Tanzania and NoT a Small Girl sitting in Kenya who doesn’t even know where Tanzania is Located to talk about Tanzania Stuff which She know Nothing other than Spewing Hate and Jealousy… We Tanzanians Do not want any Representative From Kenya or Kenyan.. Period…

  3. How can one win by 98% and still have the largest protest in the country’s history… totally a rigid election. Corruption at its best… Every opposition against her was jailed she was literally running against herself 🙆🏾‍♂️

  4. Thanks Firstpost. This is insanity. Democracy is a sham if this election is allowed to hold. Please follow and highlight the progress of these charges against simple protestors. May justice be served swiftly.
