Africa was divided as South Africa faced Mexico in the opening match of the Fifa World Cup on Thursday.
While many fans across the continent backed Bafana Bafana, others cheered for Mexico in what some online described as a “successful hate watch”, reflecting tensions sparked by recent anti-migrant tensions in South Africa.

  1. As a South African, I can tell you that it really doesn't affect us whether you support us or not. Our biggest issue right now is illegal immigration—something none of you would tolerate in your own countries, so why should we? To make matters worse, our so-called 'brothers' turn around, mock us, and call us lazy.

Why is nobody talking about the oppression black communities face in Muslim-majority African nations? We have been silent for far too long while our kindness was exploited, our women and girls were preyed upon, and drugs were peddled in our streets. We’ve had enough. If you’re so willing to accept this in your own countries, feel free to take them with you

  2. That’s very wrong to title this video as Africans turned against their own when in actual sense it’s South Africa who’s turned against Africans … the whole of African fought for their independence but now see how ungrateful and the inhumane treatment they are doing to the same people who fought for them..

  9. There’s nothing like Africa is like one country when people want to squeeze small portion of the socalled one country. Running away from their home country and going and do dodgy business on the other side of the continent
